Top 10 Democratic Accomplishments During the 111th Congress

Now that 2010 and the 111th Congress have drawn to a close, Democrats can reflect on the past two years with pride.

10. Credit card reform (CARD Act) protects Americans from unfair and misleading credit card practices.

9. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act ensures that all workers in America are paid what they deserve, regardless of race, gender, or age.

8. President Obama nominated and the Senate confirmed Associate Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court.

7. Student loan reform helps make college more affordable for students and families.

6. Wall Street reform holds Wall Street accountable, ends “too big to fail” bailouts, and enacts the strongest consumer protections in history.

5. The New START Treaty keeps America safe and strengthens our global leadership on nuclear weapons issues.

4. “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal ends the discriminatory policy preventing gays and lesbians from serving in America’s armed forces.

3. An end to combat operations in Iraq effectively ends Operation Iraqi Freedom and withdraws 100,000 troops.

2. The Recovery Act has saved and created millions of jobs, investing unprecedented resources in building a new foundation for our country, and preventing a second Great Depression.

1. The Affordable Care Act reformed our country’s broken health care system by holding insurance companies accountable, lowering costs, ensuring greater choice, and improving the quality of care for all Americans.

Sometimes I hear people say everyday people don’t have a voice when it comes to politics. While I know some may not know the Governor personally or their local elected officials, I encourage you to reach out to the elected officials that represent you through email, phone, letters, and social media. Use the link below courtesy of Greenville Forward.
http://www.greenvilleforward.com/who_represents.htm

Our job is to serve you and represent the interests of the people. You may not be able to speak to each one personally, you do have the power to speak loudly through your vote!

Here are three things to remember as you prepare to vote:

1) Know the candidates! The link below provides you with information on all candidates for Greenville County.
http://www.greenvillecounty.org/voter_registration/pdf/2010_Candidates.pdf

2) Know the issues. Click the link below to see the Constitutional Amendment Questions that will appear on November 2, 2010 General Election ballots.
http://www.scvotes.org/2010/07/27/2010_constitutional_amendment_questions

3) Know your polling place. There is nothing more frustrating then showing up to the wrong place to vote.
http://www.greenvillecounty.org/voter_registration/pdf/Polling_Locations.pdf

Be sure to check the results after 7pm on November 2nd.
http://www.enr-scvotes.org/SC/19077/35800/en/summary.html
